Charlotte is a normal teen living in rural Arkansas in the late 1980s when one day as she is following her dog through the woods her spirit leaves her body and is thrust into the body of an Osage Indian girl living in the past. As she tries to figure out why this has happened to her, she falls in love with a handsome warrior named Stomping Bull whom she is to marry in two months time. Just when she thinks she will never return to her previous life again, she is guided back by her spirit guide, a wolf. Her life becomes even more complicated when a handsome new guy comes to her school who may have some answers as to why she can go back and forth between lives and what is the purpose of it all. To make matters worse, someone on both sides seems determined to make life difficult for her and will do anything to have her all to himself.
Charlotte's character and life is based on the author's own life and events that happened to her when she was a teen. However, some events have been embellished and written as a work of fiction and should not be misconstrued as fact.

The Forest Beyond Spirit Traveler Book 1 eBook Christine DeYoung Reviews

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for OnlineBookClub.org. You can read my official review here http//forums.onlinebookclub.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26948
I found this book to be very difficult to rate. On a four star scale, I gave the book a rating of 3/4, but I stuck with 3 stars on the 5 star scale as well. I don't want to give the impression that I disliked this book; that's not the case at all. In fact, I thought the concept and overall story were very interesting. Charlotte discovers that she has the ability to travel to the past and live the life of an Osage Indian girl; it's a unique premise with a lot of potential.
However, like all readers, I have my preferences for what I prefer to see in the stories that I like to read. Personally, I am a big believer in the idea that a story should not contain any more words than is absolutely necessary to develop the characters and advance the plot, and that's where I felt the most disconnected from this story. If a lot of unnecessary information had not been present, I could have easily fallen in love with this book.
Just a warning to readers this book contains a lot of sexually explicit scenes that are often not expected in books for this age range. These scenes didn't bother me, but some parents may feel uncomfortable allowing their children to read such graphic scenes. I would recommend this book to older or more mature teens.
